We are eager to announce that we have teamed up with a second farm this year to bring our customers a farm-direct coffee with a story that starts in a small volcanic region of Guatemala and ends at the front door of our roastery.
Pablo del Cid and his wife, Eva, happened upon us this Fall while visiting Rhode Island and walked into the roastery with their own story. Pablo is a fourth-generation coffee producer from Guatemala where his Great Grandfather purchased their farm over a hundred years ago. With an emphasis on new and sustainable processes for the coffee cherries, Pablo and Eva are making Finca El Jardin a successful farm in the specialty coffee industry.
Finca El Jardin itself is positioned close to the Pacaya Volcano whose mineral-rich ashes keep the soil fertilized and able to produce high quality specialty coffees with a distinct body in the cup.
PL3 is one of 5 lots that Pablo separated at the farm level. The make up of this particular lot includes a varietal called Anacafe, which naturally has some interesting attributes for espresso. We were eager to push this one a little bit darker and fatten up the body a bit so that it would really sing as a single origin espresso.
