The Aguilera Brothers are a family of 12 brothers and sisters that together own and manage a combined 60 - hectares of farmland in the West Valley of Los Robles de Naranjo. They are second generation coffee producers with their father being one of the first growers in the area over 70 years ago. Winning fourth-place in the 2007 Cup of Excellence, Aguilera Brothers used their winnings to install a central micromill that they all comanage. Owning their own mill allows them to work more closely with roasters, using their feedback to improve their crops year after year. Before the founding of the mill "no one ever visited before," says brother and general manager of the mill Erasmo.
This lot comes from one of their small farms Finca Edgar and is a Villa Sarchi varietal. The Villa Sarchi is a natural and spontaneous Bourbon mutation found in Costa Rica and was named for the town it was first discovered near. The Villa Sarchi beans have an elegant acidity, intense fruit notes, and an elegant sweetness that is brought out from the Honey Process used.
