Red Wolf Benefit Beans

The American Red Wolf, a species exclusively native to the American South, is critically endangered and conservation efforts are being made to restore them to their natural habitat. 

Red Wolves are “umbrella species” that boost the natural health of the flora and fauna in the areas they live. They also play a key role in the cultural practices of indigenous peoples; without them a great part of the continent’s natural heritage would be lost. With less than 20 in the wild and approximately 243 in captivity as a result from both habitat loss and over-hunting, they need our help to survive.

Jasper and Ember at the Woodlands Nature Station in Kentucky are doing their part to ensure their species’ survival. Thought to be past their ability to procreate, Jasper and Ember surprised staff at the nature station with the birth of four pups. On April 26, 2021, they welcomed Trace, Piney, Ginger, and Sugar into their pack.

By partnering with Woodlands Nature Station and the non-profit, Friends of Land Between the Lakes, we’re hoping to contribute to the conservation efforts. Borealis is happy to donate $10 of every pound of this coffee sold during the month of December directly to Friends of Land Between the Lakes. Funds raised will help pay for vet costs, enrichment, pen improvements, transport costs, and more. 

For these beans, we use an organically grown, fair-trade coffee, roasted to a crowd pleasing medium roast. You can expect a smooth and creamy body with balanced flavors and a clean finish.

There are as many as 76 small producers, with farms averaging 1.5 hectares in size, that contribute to this lot. Coming from so many different farms, numerous varieties are harvested and include Bourbon, Caturra, Typica, and Catuai.
